Our team

The committee is run by a small group of volunteers who meet each month to discuss race plans.  The committee is supported by a trustee team including our Treasurer.

We'd love to expand our team to make the race even bigger and better. It doesn't matter what previous experience you have, as long as you're enthusiastic, willing to get stuck in and up for a laugh along the way we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch now!

2025 Commitee

Fiona Packman

Chairperson

I was originally introduced to the Tough Ten by a fellow volunteer.  The Tough Ten generously supported my daughter’s fundraising project to enable her to complete a month’s voluntary trip to Cambodia covering the cost of her overseas vaccination’s.  In turn we offered to be Marshals.

The committee were appealing for extra members on the committee so I volunteered.  That was 7 years ago.  My current role as Chairperson means I am part of the organising team and a point of contact for enquiries.  The best bit of my job…Race Day!  It is such fun and the runners are awesome.  The next best bit of my job…announcing beneficiaries at presentation evening.  The good causes we support are truly humbling.

Phil Cowderoy

Race Director

"The best bit about the Tough Ten is definitely the volunteers. When you're at kilometre 8, about to run up Gallows Hill Lane, it's great to see a friendly face you know, cheering you on".

A keen runner, Phil first participated in the T10 race after his wife persuaded him to run 2023. Hearing that the committee needed more members, Phil joined the team that year and inherited the Race Director role in 2024, taking over from retiring Pat Waterton.  Race Director is a key role – organising all the details for the Race itself, communicating with our Race Company and ensuring the Race runs smoothly on the day.

Lucy Packman

Marketing & Registration Lead

I joined the team in 2017 as the committee looked to expand and modernise their approach. Since then, I have helped developed a full brand guideline pack for the charity, redesigned race entry forms to improve usability, and led successful marketing campaigns to boost both runner sign-ups and volunteer marshal numbers.

I’ve also helped steer the charity into a more digital direction, introducing social media marketing to grow the event’s reach and fundraising potential.

On race day, I’m responsible for setting up the course to meet distance and safety standards, and I manage the check-in station — ensuring participants have everything they need and handling any on-the-day queries.

Alan Johnson

Lead Marshal

I first got involved with organising road races in Battersea Park, then 'graduated' to the Kings Langley Puffaten when it was first organised by our local postie. Ten years ago I assumed responsibility for the race which was run for the last time in 2023. Not wanting to stop race organising, I then joined the Abbots Langley Tough 10 Committee. I am excited to be part of the team and hope to share my previous knowledge to continue making this race a success year on year.

Volunteers & runners

Volunteer to be a Race Marshall

Hosting a large race involves a team of around 100 people on Race Day.  We are supported by lots of local businesses and organisations who donate venues, equipment and logistics to enable the race to be enjoyable and safe.

The race relies, ideally, on a team of 60 marshals who man the route in pairs offering encouragement, keeping an eye on runners and pointing runners in the right direction.

Volunteers collect your hi-vis bib and marshal pack from 8.30am at Manor House and you will be allocated a location to see runners through the race until midday. An ideal way to spend a Sunday enjoying the crisp Autumn air and October sunshine. The race is such a super event, you really will have lots of fun.
