Welcome to all you great runners and supporters who have come today to support the 31st Abbots Langley Tough Ten Run. It doesn’t matter how much we plan, prepare or hope that it is a success, it will only be a success as long as people like you and your friends and family turn up and support the event. So a big, big thank you to you all. Give yourself a pat on the back! Time to beat this year is 30:51 set by last year’s race winner, Glen Watts!

Graham Taylor          Luther Blissett
Many of our regular runners and supporters will be aware that ex-England Manager Graham Taylor has been a great supporter, for many, many years turning up to start the race, give out medals and make the presentations. Unfortunately, this year Graham has had knee surgery and as much as he would love to be with us, he cannot make it this year as he is convalescing.
The committee would like to thank Graham for his support in the past and look forward to his comeback in 2014, after we have won the World Cup in Brazil!!
However, Graham, being very helpful, pointed us in the direction of Watford Legend, Luther Blissett, who has very kindly agreed to start this year’s races, despite the fact he is moving house this weekend!! Many thanks for your support Luther.
Funds Raised 2012
Last year was our 30th year and, with a record number of runners, we raised over £9000 which we distributed at our annual presentation evening on a very cold 25th January.

 Beneficiaries for 2012 were:
HENDERSON HALL TRUST £2700 used by many groups in the village.
DEMAND £1000 which will help them to design more equipment for local disabled people in our community.
BREAKESPEARE SCHOOL £500 for children with learning difficulties.
BEDMOND SCHOOL £400  A ‘thank you’ for the amazing amount of money they raised in sponsorship. Schools can claim 50% of the
money back and we wanted to round their total
up to £1000.
ADAM PHILLIPS £287 which will be used to pay for special ramps for his wheelchair.
DEBRA GEARD £100. Debra ran in the London Marathon to raise money for Children with Cancer and is instrumental in encouraging the local schools to enter teams in our events.

George Harrison
George Harrison, who was a founder member of the Tough Ten when it was a 10 mile race, retired after 30 years on the committee. George still acts as our chief advisor, sets the field and organises the time keeping. George was last year awarded Development Coach of the Year 2012. CONGRATULATIONS GEORGE!

Reg Hunt
As you read this newsletter, you may be listening to the dulcet tones of Reg Hunt on the commentary microphone?
Reg Hunt started the Tough Ten race back in 1982 when he started the charity MENCOP. Reg Hunt was then the local PC and over the years the Tough Ten has raised over a QUARTER OF A MILLION POUNDS! Since retiring to the Isle of Wight Reg has returned year on year to give us his support. Thank you Reg for having the inspiration to dream up the

race in the first place and thanks for turning up
to support us.

Sponsor Money
Each year it gets more and more expensive and a SMALL COMMITTEE has to arrange the legal side and policing, so it is important that sponsor money is split 50/50 between your charity and the ALTT.
If we don’t raise enough money the effort involved will outweigh the benefit to our community.
Also, if you work for a company that does “matching” on money raised, this is a great way we can increase our income.
Do you know someone who needs help?
If you know of somebody in the local area who has a disability or illness or of a local good cause please let us know.
We cannot guarantee that we will be able to help, but at least it will put them on our radar for future years
Our Sponsors
This race can only take part with the support of our sponsors. Thanks to:
